Hyatt Regency Chicago also offers parking options, including valet parking for $69\/night and self-parking at the nearby\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/dogSLQzpKMcTJbTBA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Illinois Center Garage<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/dogSLQzpKMcTJbTBA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u00a0<\/a>for $49\/night.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Identify which sessions you\u2019d like to attend and who you\u2019d like to meet.<\/strong> Review the full schedule\u00a0in advance to plan your time during the conference. Or use one of the many websites that offer low-cost design and printing.<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Pack comfy shoes.<\/strong>\u00a0Be comfortable while you\u00a0dash between sessions or explore the city.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Bring a reusable water bottle.\u00a0<\/strong>We\u2019ve eliminated bottled water in keeping with our commitment to sustainability.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Plan your thirty-second elevator introduction.<\/strong> In other words, be able to summarize who you are and what you do professionally in the time it takes to reach your floor\u2014about thirty seconds. Even better, if you are attending tutorials, you can pick up your materials on Sunday evening until 8:00 PM. You should also orient yourself to the hotel or study the hotel floor plan in case you are running late.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Keep track of your badge.<\/strong>\u00a0Your conference badge allows you admission to all sessions, including meals and social events.\u00a0Be sure to take it off when venturing outside the conference hotel. Wearing your conference badge identifies you as a tourist and makes you a target for scammers and thieves.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Check meeting times closely.\u00a0<\/strong>The Conference Schedule you\u2019ll receive at registration lists the times and locations for all sessions, events, workshops, and exhibits. These times and locations, however, occasionally change\u2014check the conference website\u00a0or registration desk for updates.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Session-hop.\u00a0<\/strong>You don\u2019t have to stay for the full length of a session. The speakers for each session are listed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/pearc.acm.org\/pearc19\/conference-program\/\">Conference Program<\/a>, in chronological order and you are free to move around. If you play \u201cmusical sessions,\u201d grab a seat near a door so you can easily slip in and out without disturbing the speakers or other attendees.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Allow enough travel time between sessions.\u00a0<\/strong>Although all sessions PEARC sessions are conveniently clustered within the West Tower of the hotel, give yourself enough time to move from session to session\u2014especially since you may have impromptu conversations with folks you meet in the hallways!\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Ask a question.<\/strong>\u00a0Chairs usually reserve time at the end of the session for audience questions. Write down your question in advance and make sure it\u2019s related to the discussion. Don\u2019t forget to state your name and your institutional affiliation so that people can remember you. If you\u2019d like to respond to the presentations with your own comments, talk to a speaker afterward and get his or her email.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Introduce yourself to the person sitting next to you.\u00a0<\/strong>A big part of attending the conference is networking. Before the session begins is a great time to introduce yourself and make a connection!\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>You can use your laptop or smart phone during a session.\u00a0<\/strong>Typing notes during a talk is okay; so is tweeting. Just be mindful of your neighbors and respectful of the speakers. And don\u2019t forget to silence your phone and share your tweets using #PEARC19.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Post on social media using #PEARC19!\u00a0<\/strong>If you\u2019re heading to a session of interest or enjoying a particular event, let other people know. This will also get your name in front of other attendees. You could then meet after the sessions, or wait until you get home, to regroup and discuss.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Remember to visit PEARC19 Exhibitors.\u00a0<\/strong>This is another great way to expand your network. You may even get a lead on a job opportunity. Exhibitors will be available to chat Monday-Wednesday from 10am-5pm, and on Thursday from 10am-12pm in the\u00a0Toronto\/Hong Kong\/Acapulco rooms.And, be sure to thank exhibitors for their support!<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Attend the evening social events.\u00a0<\/strong>Just because you\u2019re at a conference doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t have a little fun, but be mindful, observant, and professional when interacting in a social environment. You never know who you might encounter!\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>If you are a student, visit the Student Volunteer Lounge.\u00a0<\/strong>It is a place where you can meet friends and colleagues, network to make new connections, and relax with exceptional company. The lounge is located in in Stetson BC.<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Charge your laptop, tablet, or smart phone every night<\/strong>, and remember to pack your charger in your bag. Don\u2019t leave your devices unattended when charging.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Dress in layers.\u00a0<\/strong>The temperatures in conference session rooms can fluctuate, so be ready to change accordingly.\u00a0<span class=\"wixGuard\">\u200b<\/span><\/p><p class=\"font_8\"><strong>Make a new connection!\u00a0<\/strong>Try not to spend\u00a0all your time with\u00a0friends or colleagues that you already know. Attending a\u00a0smaller\u00a0conference like PEARC19 offers a great opportunity\u00a0to meet new collaborators and network! So\u00a0leave your comfort zone and set a goal to meet at least two new people every day.
